About Brisket Cases

Back in 1973 a few friends got together and formed what was to become one of the oldest competitive and most successful bar-b-cue cooking teams in Texas. Call it a dare, a whim or just plain fun, the Brisket Cases bar-b-que team was born. In 1974 the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo created the World Championship Bar-B-Que Cook-Off which was then held in the shadow of the 8th wonder of the world, the Astrodome.

Not many teams participated back then, but this event has grown to over 300 bar-b-que cook-off teams annually.  Brisket Cases has proudly paid a big part since the beginning. Raising money for the kids, Brisket Cases and sponsors have donated over $450,000 to the Houston Livestock Show Scholarship Fund as of March, 2023. Each year during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cook-off competition, Brisket Cases not only cooks and competes, but the team also hosts special events.

During the cook-off, Brisket Cases takes a day and feeds The Houston Hurricanes Equestrian Team and their families, and we have added for the last 2 years The Sunshine Kids to tent as well. Our reward is seeing all those smiling faces enjoying an unforgettable day and a great food Hamburger’s, Hotdogs and Frito Pie.

With an additional space acquired in 2010, Brisket Cases can now accommodate almost 500 invited guests and often feeds 1,500 nightly during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cook-off.

We’re only too happy to answer the question, “Where’s the beef?”  Brisket’s not the only thing on the serving line.  Bar-b-que chicken, sausage and pulled pork round out the main courses. The sides include potato salad, bar-b-que beans, cabbage.
